Winners of Best Master's Thesis in VA 2025 announced
To raise awareness and raise the status of the water and sanitation sector, Svenskt Vatten, Structorstiftelsen and – starting this year – the Water Industry – are awarding prizes for the best thesis in the water and sanitation sector. The winner has now been chosen for 2025.
By delving into PFAS, microorganisms, water consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, the 2025 laureates took home a total of SEK 175,000. Four degree theses share the award Best thesis in VA 2025. Interest has been great and a record number of nominated entries were noted.
This year's awardees are Kaleb Engvall, Emil Planhem, Koushikk Suyambulingam Raja, Jacob Ammenberg and Julia Löfberg. The prize money amounts to SEK 50,000 in the 30-credit category and SEK 25,000 in the 15-credit category. The awardees will participate in the Water Congress in Malmö on May 18–20, where the award ceremony will also take place.
A new feature this year is that three organizations are jointly behind the award: Swedish Water, the Water Industry and the Structor Foundation, which have joined forces to create greater impact in the work of strengthening the supply of skills within the water and sanitation industry. Therefore, it is a little extra gratifying that the interest has been so great.
We would like to extend a big thank you to this year's jury, which consisted of Daniel Hellström (Association of Municipalities Norrvatten), Jesper Olsson (Käppala Association), Sofia Andersson (Stockholm Vatten och Avfall AB), Gustav Myhrman (Mälarenergi Vatten AB), Dennis Adolfsson (Sweco and board member of the Water Industry) and Matilda Jirblom (Ramboll and chair of the Next Generation Focus Group for the Water Industry).
