Water Industry Launches Internship Program

The water industry is facing a generational shift. At the same time, there is a very large investment need in VA and development is going faster than ever before. Overall, this means that we not only need to replace those who are retiring, we also need to attract more and new types of skills. To attract young people to choose a career in water, the Water Industry is launching an Internship program that will run through the summer of 2024.

The Water Industry Internship Program aims to attract young people to an industry that is filled with exciting opportunities in many areas, from technical challenges to major societal issues.

– We believe this is a very exciting way to discover the possibilities of a career in water. Participants will work at various member companies for a few weeks in the summer of 2024 to experience as much as possible about an industry that works with everything from technical challenges to major social issues, says Matilda Jirblom, investigation engineer in water and sewage at Ramboll in Malmö and chairman of the Water Industry's focus group NextGen, which works on skills supply issues.

The program features several members of the Water Industry from different types of businesses, such as consultants, contractors and product suppliers within water purification and water treatment, which provides a unique insight into several different parts of the industry.

In addition to visits to companies for lectures, study visits, case studies and workshops, the participants will work together on a project assignment that during this first year is Climate change & climate adaptation – challenges for the water and sanitation industry. The results will be presented at the Water Industry Forum24 on November 19, 2024 in Stockholm.

– It is of utmost importance to solve the issue of skills supply and ensure learning between generations. We look forward to bringing together experience and new ideas through the Water Industry Internship Program, says Joachim Jämttjärn, Secretary General of the Water Industry.

Welcome to a summer you won't soon forget when you dip your toes into our industry!
