The Water Industry Internship Program returns for the second time in 2025

The water industry is facing a generational shift. At the same time, there is a huge need for investment and development is going faster than ever before. With the Water Industry Internship Program, we want to attract more people to choose a career in water. New this year is that the industry organization Swedish Water is joining.

The Water Industry Internship Program was launched in the summer of 2024 and is an initiative that aims to attract young talents who are curious about the water and sanitation industry, regardless of previous experience and background.

– The first round of the Water Industry Internship Program was received far beyond our expectations, from the number of applicants and the commitment from the participating students and companies, to the insights we gained, says Joachim Jämttjärn, Secretary General of the Water Industry.

It was therefore an easy decision for the Water Industry Board to return to the program in 2025.

More perspectives on a socially important industry

In 2024, the program ran for 4 summer weeks and the students got to experience the water and sanitation industry from several perspectives – contracting, consulting and product supplier. This year, the perspective of the water and sanitation organization is added with the involvement of Svenskt Vatten and its members.

– Competence supply within the water and sanitation sector is a key issue for the water and sanitation organisations when it comes to future-proofing our water and sanitation system. Our members are curious about the concept of an Internship Program and would like to contribute their perspective on the industry, says Pär Dalhielm, CEO of Svenskt Vatten.

The application period for 2025 opens today and closes on March 2.

Among the companies and organizations hosting this year are Aarsleff Pipe Technologies, HUBER, Norrvatten, Purac, Ramboll, Sweco, Vattenresurs and WSP.
