The VA emergency response investigation has been presented.
The water industry welcomes the new VA emergency report, which highlights crucial issues at a time when a robust water supply is a cornerstone of societal security.
To address the challenges identified by the report, we emphasize that financing and governance must be significantly strengthened. This is an absolute necessity if we are to address existing shortcomings, such as neglected maintenance and investment, and build an even more resilient water and sanitation sector, both in terms of preparedness and adaptation to the impacts of climate change.
We see that private-public collaboration is an obvious and indispensable part of the solution. All actors, regardless of role, must clearly identify how they can contribute to strengthened preparedness and resilient solutions. We encourage our member companies to proactively analyze their roles, develop scenarios and prioritize exercises and preparations. At the same time, we want to highlight the need for clearer planning conditions and strong leadership on the issue. The business community needs long-term predictability and clear expectations in order to contribute effectively.
Together we can ensure a sustainable and resilient water and sanitation sector that meets both today's and future challenges.
