Stumbling block for the Water Industry

In a survey conducted in 2022, 721% of participants answered "no" when asked if they had actively applied to the water and sanitation industry.

In a survey¹ conducted in 2022 among Vattenindustrin's members, 72% answered no to the question of whether they had actively applied to the water and sanitation industry. Vattenindustrin wants to change this.

The water industry should be the obvious choice for young people who want to work with sustainability, new technology and feel that their work is important and makes a difference. This change needs to come soon. Another survey² among managers and HR managers showed, among other things, the following effects of the skills shortage already today:

  • 82% of respondents believe that a lack of skills means they cannot expand their business as planned
  • 45% of respondents believe that a lack of skills means they cannot develop products and services as planned
  • 361% of respondents believe that lack of competence causes them to refrain from responding to tenders when certain competence requirements are missing.

In 2022, the Swedish Water Industry conducted two surveys among member companies:
¹ The Road to the Water Industry 2022 – a survey with questions about how employees in member companies ended up in the water and sanitation industry
² Skills Needs 2022 – a survey aimed at managers/HR managers about perceived skills shortages today and in the long term
