Simon Björkvall is Project Manager

”It is an exciting industry with a high technology focus.”

What kind of education do you have?

– Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Royal Institute of Technology.

Why have you chosen to work in VA?

– I have chosen to continue working in water because it is an exciting industry with a high technology focus. The feeling that the work we do together leads to something better. I did not specifically apply to the water industry, but ended up here by chance, but I very quickly understood that it was right for me. There is a strong sense of togetherness, regardless of which company you work for and we help each other to achieve the same goal.

Tell us about the job you have today!

– I work as a project manager with a focus on large projects. I coordinate different technical areas to deliver a technical solution that meets the requirements, within budget and time frames. The need for reconstruction and upgrades of wastewater treatment plants is increasing, both due to population growth and stricter treatment requirements. Together with my colleagues, we work on system documents and construction documents, and we are often involved during the construction process itself.

What does a typical day look like?

– A typical day is very varied and can consist of everything from leading design meetings to make the decisions required to drive the project forward, participating in technical meetings to find the right technical solution for the application, to developing and compiling decision-making documents. In the early stages, we make site visits to measure, document and review the existing facility. During the construction phase, we are often out on the job site to follow up on production, handle any changes or deviations from documents and solve unforeseen problems.
