The History of the Water Industry

The industry organization Vattenindustrin was founded in 1967 under the name Varim. Over the years, the organization has developed into an important network in the water and sanitation industry.

1967

The history of the Water Industry begins on September 6, 1967. The association started under the name Varim with 14 member companies and several of the original members are still members today.

1980

The name Varim stood for the Water Treatment Group within the Swedish Mechanical Engineering Association and was written in capital letters inside the water drop. The drop has been included in the logo over the years.

1995

Trade fairs and meeting places have always been important for member companies. In 1995, the Municipal Technology trade fair was organized, which later became the Water and Sanitation Trade Fair. The logo had been changed to Varim with lowercase letters and the characteristic drop next to the name.

2017

The logo and graphic profile were updated for a more modern look.

2021

Varim changed its name to Vattenindustrin as a natural step towards becoming a stronger trade association. The name aims to more clearly describe who we represent, companies operating in the water industry. The goal is clear – to contribute to more knowledge and increased understanding between clients and contractors in order to increase both capacity and efficiency. Also to grow as an organization to have greater opportunities to influence the water and sanitation industry within our issues.

2022

The water industry is arranging its first FORUM in the fall of 2022 and is laying the foundation for the Water Meeting Point, which will be held at the Swedish Exhibition and Congress Center in the fall of 2023. An offer for micro-enterprises is being developed to stimulate new ideas and growth.

2024

The Water Industry Internship Program, an industry-wide initiative from the Water Industry together with the member companies with the aim of attracting more talent to choose a career in water, is launched. Four students get to test the role of consultant, entrepreneur and product supplier at four different member companies over four summer weeks and receive very good feedback. The following year, the number of students and participating companies and organizations doubles to eight and is carried out in parallel in Gothenburg and Stockholm.
