From Almedalen Week: Together we create resilient and climate-adapted societies

What is required for our water and sewage systems to function even in times of crisis, war or heightened alert?

Today, Vatten2025 and the Water Industry are organizing the Water Lunch in Almedalen to focus on the crucial issue of water. We are very pleased to welcome Helena Dyrssen, State Secretary to the Minister of Climate and Environment Romina Pourmokhtari, as a speaker this year. She will share the government's perspective on how access to clean water and functioning sewage can be secured in a changed security situation.

Marcus Wangel and Karin Nilsson from the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise are invited to present a new report on companies' need for a robust, predictable and efficient water and sewage system to meet future demands and strengthen both society and business.

It is fantastic that Swedish households have access to water 24/7. Sweden's water and sewage system is reliable in supply thanks to the municipal and regional water and sanitation actors together with the members of the Swedish Water Industry.

However, the business community is already being affected today – both directly through water-related disruptions, production stoppages, increased insurance costs and difficulties establishing itself in areas with insufficient water supply capacity, and indirectly through the uncertainty surrounding the infrastructure making long-term planning and investments more difficult.

The challenges we face are best solved together. Private-public collaboration needs to be strengthened to secure Sweden's water supply and civil defense.
