Skills supply

The water industry is facing a generational shift. At the same time, there is a huge investment need and development is happening faster than ever before. This means that we not only need to replace those who are retiring, we also need to attract new types of skills to the exciting and important water and sanitation industry.

Skills supply is a priority issue and is driven by the Next Generation focus group within the Water Industry. The focus group works to highlight job and development opportunities within the Water Industry and attract more people to choose a career in water.

In the area of skills provision, the Water Industry wants the following:

  • The water industry wants to increase the attractiveness of the industry in order to recruit classic water and sanitation roles as well as new types of expertise.
  • To ensure the water network functions stably and secure future water supplies, investments of SEK 560 billion are required by 2040. Therefore, the supply of skills needs to be secured.
  • The water industry should be the obvious choice for young people who want to work with sustainability, new technology and feel that their work is important and makes a difference.
