The Water Industry Internship Program aims to attract young people to an industry filled with exciting opportunities in many areas, from technical challenges to major societal issues. You will have a summer you will never forget!

Every summer, the Water Industry offers a paid Internship Program where students get the opportunity to experience what it is like to work with water from several different exciting perspectives and roles. In 2026, the program was implemented in Gothenburg and Halmstad. The participating companies were Huber Technology, Sweco Sweden and Uniwater in Gothenburg and HMS Industrial Networks in Halmstad, which provided a unique insight into several different parts of the industry!

Ahead of the 2026 Internship program, the Water Industry has conducted a survey in digitalization which became the students' project assignment and the results were presented at Nordiwa September 18, Stockholm.

Program & structure

Water Industry Internship Program 2025.
During the summer of 2025, there was the opportunity to choose between two different locations, Gothenburg and Stockholm. Four member companies and water and sanitation organizations participated in each area from different parts of the water industry, which provided a unique insight.

The selected participants jointly visited the companies and water and sanitation organizations for lectures, study visits, case studies and workshops. The results of the assignment will be presented at the Water2025 Meeting Place at the Swedish Exhibition and Congress in Gothenburg.

Water Industry Internship Program 2026.
In 2026, the location was Gothenburg and a week in Halmstad. Four participating member companies that work in different areas of the water treatment industry were hosts.

In 2026, the students have focused on digitalization of the water and sanitation industry as their project assignment. The results will be presented to the industry at Nordiwa on September 18 in Stockholm.

Water Industry Internship Program 2027

Practical information:

  • Place: Locations and locations will be announced shortly. We expect you to be able to arrange accommodation during the period.
  • Registration: Expressions of interest for 2027 are open – submit your application here
  • Application deadline: March 1, 2027
  • Interviews and information meeting: April 2027
  • Kick-off: early June 2027
  • Period: 4 weeks divided into two weeks in June and two in August
  • Market salary paid for the summer weeks that the program is running

Who can apply? 

  • Are curious to learn more about water, you do not need to have previous experience in the industry
  • Curious about the water purification industry and how we can attract more people to choose it
  • Still studying, but have progressed somewhat in your university, college or vocational school education and are not in their final year of education
  • Have good communication skills and are easy to work with in a team
  • Have good knowledge of Swedish and English
  • Can arrange accommodation in the area surrounding the location where the program takes place
