This is what Andreas Hagelin, head of security at the K\u00e4ppala Association on Liding\u00f6, says. Andreas is one of several experts who will participate at the Water Industry FORUM26 on November 19. On site, Andreas will share his views on how we can together further strengthen Sweden's water and sanitation preparedness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Andreas has personally experienced how crucial collaboration is in times of crisis. During his time at the Swedish National Food Agency, he worked, among other things, on the consequences of the EU sanctions against Belarus in 2021. The sanctions caused great uncertainty around deliveries of raw materials for the precipitation chemicals used to purify water. The situation quickly became stressful and many actors simultaneously tried to understand the consequences and what actually needed to be done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2013 It was a situation where everything was put on the line. Everyone had their tasks and responsibilities, but in a crisis, expectations also arise between actors that do not always match reality. We perhaps thought that companies should act in a certain way, while in turn they thought that we should be able to do things that we actually could not within the legal framework we had.
What made the difference was that many relationships were already in place between authorities, municipalities and companies. That's why Andreas thinks it's good that Forum26 focuses on realistic crisis scenarios that everyone on site gets to experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2013 A crisis can create frustration, but also important insights. What often becomes difficult is that different organizations work based on different logics, responsibilities and cultures. Not everyone always agrees. But through dialogue, collaboration and a certain humility, most knots can be resolved. That is an important lesson to take with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For employees in municipal operations, Andreas believes that FORUM26 can above all contribute to understanding that preparedness is never something you build alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2013 Hopefully, people will come away with the realization that this type of incident cannot be solved on its own. If the municipality, authorities and business community work together, we can achieve a lot more than we think.
